Description
Join us for Adaptive Late Night at the Rec, a special event designed to ensure everyone can participate in recreational activities, regardless of ability. In partnership with the Adaptive Sports Club, we'll be offering a range of accessible activities, including adaptive climbing on our climbing wall and wheelchair basketball. We’re also planning other engaging activities that will be inclusive and fun for all participants.
Activity Descriptions:
Pool: Our pool is 25 yards long and has a depth range of 3 to 7 feet. It will have 3 lane dividers up, and the rest open. The aquatics center also offers a hot tub and shallow basketball play area. Floaties, kickboards, life jackets, and noodles will all be available for swimming fun! In order to pass the swim test, the patron must swim half the length of the pool on their stomach and demonstrate the ability to fully submerge their head under water. After making it halfway, patrons switch to swimming on their back. They must also be able to tread water for two minutes. If a patron does not take/pass the swim test, they must wear a life jacket and be accompanied by a responsible buddy.
Climbing Wall: Our climbing wall offers routes set specifically for adaptive late night. We have campus routes (intended to be climbed with arms only) and compacted routes (for smaller climbers, etc). Most of the climbing offered at our wall will be ropes. We have traditional gym harnesses that attach to legs and waist, and chest harnesses that add additional support to a climber's torso. Come check it out!
Weights: Upstairs by the track will be a weightlifting circuit! Participants will challenge themselves with the help of our instructors using strength training equipment.
Wheelchair Basketball:Come play wheelchair basketball with Adaptive Sports Club! Adaptive Sports Club officers will walk you through rules and playing tactics, and then a scrimmage will ensue. We have sports chairs available for everyone, come play!
Seated Fencing: WWU Adaptive Sports Club and WWU Fencing Club are putting on a seated fencing station!
Zumba: Our amazing Zumba instructors will be hosting a dance party. We will have music lowered, no flashing lights, and earplugs available by the door. Come dance!
