Description
If you would like to ride your bike more confidently and often, this class is for you! This class will help make riding a bike part of your regular transportation routine.
Meet outside the Outdoor Center at VU 150. You may either bring your own bike and helmet to class, or these can be freely provided through the Outdoor Center. Please RSVP to reserve a spot and a bike!
We will begin by practicing bike handling skills off the road. Then we will take a ride on the city streets to practice our skills. Please note, you must show enough competence on your bike off the road to ride on the road. If this is an issue, after you have had time to practice your bike handling skills, we will schedule a one-on-one ride with you on a later date.
You will learn:
- Starting and stopping gracefully
- Adding air to your tires
- How and when to shift gears
- Best ways to be visible and predictable to drivers
- Taking your bike on a bus
- Road placement in different situations
- Triggering traffic lights
Closed-toe shoes and helmets are required.
