This series of four 3-hour lessons will take you through the basics of sailing smallboats. Instruction will happen on shore and out on the Lake aboard WWU’s fleet of 14-foot trainer dinghies. After attending all four lessons, most students will have sufficient expertise to continue to sail at Lakewood (for FREE!) and progress their skills independently or with friends.
No prior sailing or water experience required!

Lakewood's spring lessons are intended for students from Western, NWIC, WCC, BTC, NWIC. Staff/Faculty and alum lessons will be offered in summer 2025!
Transportation Info:
Weekday lessons: A free vanpool to/from campus is available. Students must opt into this at registration and space is limited to the first eight (8) requests. Meet at the Outdoor Center by 4:15p – students will be dropped off by 7:45p. Or there is plenty of parking onsite!
Weekend lessons: WTA Route 512 leaves from the downtown Bellingham station @ 10:40a and arrives at Lakewood by 11:05a. A vanpool may be available. Or there is plenty of parking onsite!
Cost: $50 per person

Schedule: Lessons occur either Tues/Thurs for two weeks (4:30p-7:30p) or Sat/Sun for two weekends (11:30a-2:30p). All session start dates listed below:
