Description

The final film of this year’s season of the Cinema East film series at Pickford Film Center (1318 Bay Street) is Hou Hsiao-hsien's 1983 feature The Boys from Fengkuei, which screens on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 7:45 p.m., with a matinee screening at 11:00 a.m.  More information and tickets can be found online.  

 

According to the Pickford’s website, The Boys from Fengkuei is about friends from the small village of Fengkuei who: 

 

“…spend their days drinking, fighting, gambling and goofing off. When three of them head to the port city of Kaohsiung in search of urban adventure, they find themselves reckoning with the realities of work, love, and death in a world they’re not prepared to face.”  

 

The Cinema East film series is co-presented by Western Libraries and Pickford Film Center, with film selections curated by WWU librarian Jeff Purdue, who will also be introducing the film.
