About the Ethnic Student Center

The Ethnic Student Center (ESC) is an organization within Multicultural Student Services of Western Washington University. The ESC is a student-centered program within the Multicultural Student Services of WWU. This Ethnic Student Center is a collaborative of student leadership whose legacy dates back to the establishment of the ESC in 1991. Alongside the cultural identity centers, the ESC is a multicultural council of student representation from each club affiliated with La Plaza, The Black Student Coalition and the Blue Resource Center.

The ESC is located on the 7th floor of the Viking Union and provides social and academic support, professional and student staff, and amenities such as lounge space, a full kitchen, as well as dance and conference rooms. The ESC offers study spaces, free computer access, and tons of resource information for varying topics. The ESC is open to all students regardless of culture or identity. We provide several resources and a safe environment where students can work on event programming, do homework, or just hang out with peers.

There were originally five founding clubs which has developed over time to 26+ clubs and growing. The ESC includes many identity-based and cultural clubs that assist students in transitioning to Western, developing cultural identity, providing a sense of community, and being active in social justice. Our goal is to help students Affirm their identity, Build a sense of community, and Cultivate leadership (Our "ABCs"). The ESC is home to many diverse clubs open to students of all backgrounds.
