Queer Eco Justice Club

About

Queer Eco Justice Club (QEJC) is a queer liberation and climate justice focused social group that meets regularly to discuss ways to bring queerness into conversations of climate justice and vice versa. QEJC provides a safe space for everyone to feel like they can be their authentic selves without question.

QEJC has a Discord server, an Instagram page, and a Canvas page with QEJ resources. Their primary means of communication is Discord, where they send announcements about their meetings, give updates about the club Outback Farm plot, and have queer ecological conversations. During Fall quarter, they are meeting in person on Tuesdays at 5pm at the Outdoor Classroom on the Outback Farm, directly behind the Fairhaven dorms. Masks are recommended but not required. Please email wwuqueerecojustice@gmail.com for more info.

We are a node of the greater Queer Ecojustice Project created by Desi Fontenot, Vanessa Raditz, and Roya Banan, we carry their vision of an “intersectional movement platform to catalyze culture, consciousness, and community around the queer and eco justice movements to build coalition across difference.”

We utilize the Queer Ancestral Futures zine as written by Vanessa Raditz and Desi Fontenot to define the word “queer” as a noun and a verb.

Queerness:

(noun) A medley of gender and sexually diverse ways of being - identities, expressions, cultures, bodies, intimate and erotic interactions. Encompasses many different identities and behaviors.

(verb) To Queer is to destabilize, disrupt, expand, bend, blend and transform what has been normalized and naturalized.
